WEDOS.protection
WEDOS.protection was the very first service built on WEDOS.global.Β In the beginning these were synonymous, but as WEDOS.global has grown and added more services, WEDOS.protection, built on our strong Anycast foundation, has also grown into its own robust cyber protection solution.
Threat Mitigation Toolkit
Over the years, WEDOS.protection has developed a multitude of ways to protect web servers from various cyber threats.
Traffic Filters
Traffic filters are the simplest, yet most powerful tool in WEDOS.protection. Their role is to continuously analyze incoming requests, and take actions against those meeting certain criteria from a wide array of options. These filters can block anything from individual IP addresses to entire continents, all based on commercial and internal blacklists, as well as machine learning.
Challenges
Some mailicous traffic seeks to disguise itself as legitimate requests. Not only that, it comes from the same networks as regular traffic, so filtering it out based on IP address, for example, can lead to locking out actual users. A challenge presents the client with a task, which is easy for a human to solve, but harder, if not impossible, for a bot. Based on the result of that challenge, the client is either allowed to proceed, or locked out for a time.
CDN Cache
Another tool useful for reducing load on the target (web) server is the CDN Cache. CDN stands for Content Delivery Network, while the Cache is a tool enabling systems to store frequently delivered content, so that requesting it over and over again doesn’t use up valuable reasources. Whenever a client requests such content, WEDOS.global delivers it from the nearest available cache.

Reverse Proxy
Finally, the proxy servers of the Anycast network conceal the actual IP address of the target (web) server. This makes it harder to figure out alternative ways to target it, especially if that server is also configured to only accept traffic from the WEDOS.global system.
